The thing about smoking is that it turns from something you do socially into an addiction. Just like drinking, drugs and eating lots, your body starts to crave cigarettes. And it will have a meltdown if you try to go “cold turkey” and quit.

If that paints a familiar picture, all hope is not lost. It is entirely possible to give up smoking, but it needs to be a gradual process. When you start to rely less and less on smoking cigarettes, it will become easier to quit altogether. Here are a few options to help you cut down on those cravings:

Interchange your cigarettes with electronic ones

One successful method of cutting down on your smoking is to use an electronic cigarette. If you’re not sure how they work, let me explain. In a nutshell, e-cigarettes work by heating up liquid nicotine. It gets heated from a rechargeable battery, and the nicotine is stored in a refillable cartridge.

Are you struggling to pay for your expensive habit? If so, you should bear in mind that electronic cigarettes cost a fraction of the cost of conventional ones. And you can get cartridges in all kinds of flavors!

You should get to a point where you smoke e-cigarettes more than the standard ones each day.

Cut down on your stress

One of the reasons that people tend to smoke a lot is because they are dealing with a lot of stress in their lives. Stress can take many forms, and the source is usually work or money. On many occasions, it can even be sourced to family and relationship issues.

When we are stressed, we become rather vulnerable as a species. Some of us might comfort eat, while others tend to smoke or drink some beers.

I’m afraid I can’t tell you how to remove all stress for your life, because this blog post will turn into an epic novel! Instead, write down what stresses you out the most and then come up with ways to combat the causes.

For example, if money worries keep you up at night, think about ways to increase your income. You could get another job or do some moonlighting in your spare time. You might even spend a weekend listing your unwanted items on eBay!

Chew on a healthy snack

Believe it or not, chewing on something like a carrot is a good way of replacing the cigarette craving that you’ve got! Some people tend to snack on things like chocolates, for example. But, as you can imagine, you’ll end up dealing with another problem: obesity!

Find out which snacks are healthy and that you like eating, and chew on them when you’ve got a nicotine craving.

Go for a walk

Sometimes it makes sense to exit a situation and head to neutral ground. If you’re having a bad day at work, you could always go for a walk, even if it’s just around the block.

It’ll help you to clear the stress for your mind, and you’ll feel healthier for doing so too!
