My Summer Driving Playlist

Posted on Aug 2 2013 - 3:14pm by Charlie

Some songs just remind you of summer, and there’s nothing better than having your windows down blasting out your favourite tunes. I’ve put together 10 songs that make their way onto every CD I make for my car…

This is my entry to  MoneySupermarket’s Ultimate Summer Driving Playlist Competition, where bloggers are challenged to come up with the best summer music playlist. Here goes mine!

First up, it’s the song no one can escape:

Blurred lines:

I thought I’d have tired of this one by now, but it’s just so catchy it has to be first up on the list!

The Cliché

Sorry, but if you’ve entered this competition and not included Summertime by the Fresh Prince then you don’t deserve to win:

que no pare la fiesta

It’s the only bit of Spanish I know, and have to shout out every time it’s on  – Pitbull’s “Don’t stop the party”. I’ve had some funny looks when I’m at traffic lights singing “YEAH YEAH YEAH, QUE NO PARE LA FIESTA”:

Bob Sinclair – Love Generation

The intro is ace – “From Jamaica to de world”… if you don’t whistle along with this you’re a liar.

You can’t beat a bit of Buble!

If it’s sunny outside, this song is perfect. It’s a beautiful day:

An oldie

Perry Como – Papa Loves Mambo – what a tune!

Mas Que Nada
Football fans will remember this from Nike’s 1998 advert that featured the Brazilian national football team playing in the airport. Tamba Trio – Mas Que Nada:

James Brown

This needs no introduction:

Get Busy

Get Busy by Sean Paul. I challenge you to not shout “woo” every 2 seconds listening to this (once you’ve heard it you won’t notice anything else)

Here comes the sun

It can’t be summer if you’re not listening to “Here comes the sun” by the fab four:

As you can see, I’ve included a mix in there. I’ve tried to avoid the usual suspects like “summer of 69” or “boys of summer”. Hopefully something different will give me a good chance of winning the competition!
